ASPECTS FOR WHICH A LEADER MUST PREPARE IN
ADVANCE.
There include the establishment of a system for evaluating personnel, a system of check and control and methods of motivation, discipline and sanction.
A) Establishing a system for evaluating personnel.
An important fact a leader with who deals directly with people is that these find satisfaction in knowing that their interest are not completely overshadowed by the need to get the objectives fulfilled. One concern of concern of workers is their promotion and their forms of advancement on the basis of personal evaluation. personal evaluation is generally done on a periodic basis or when one is moved from one duty to another. If there exist any doubt about honesty of evaluations of the effectiveness of the method used, much harm and dissatisfaction can be generated during the period of evaluation. In most Christian organization, we avoid personnel evaluation because of the question “who are you to judge other?”
Such question is indeed ludicrous. Of cause we can evaluate one another, and indeed we need to. Those who practice higher standard in their lives and works are worthy of greater compensation and trust. Those who are negligent and careless cannot be entrusted with the same responsibility and should be rated lower.

Those who are negligent and careless cannot be entrusted with the same responsibility and should be rated lower.
There are basically three areas in regards to personnel evaluation. These are performance, character and potential for the development to higher responsibility.
1) Performance is the easiest to evaluate because it is directly measurable. In performance, we look for two things- quality and quantity. Quality tells us how well the work has been done. Quantity tells us how much work has been done.
To accurately evaluate performance it is necessary to have fixed standard against which to measure. It may be in form of written specification and quotas, or in form of actual products made to acceptable standard For example, if we were in the book printing business we could evaluate our product against other book or against written specifications.
2) Character evaluation is much more difficult. The real difficult here is that each evaluator have different standard by which me measures others. Often we set character standard for others which we our selves do not meet. Character evaluation depends more on the evaluator than it does on the one being evaluated. These area needs to be handled carefully or serious problem can be created. In Christian work character in an important factor and Gods word is fundamental in its evaluation.
3) Many people have the potential to do more than they are normally required to do. It important to recognize the potential people have for further development. This may save the organization money and time in acquiring people for higher positions. When performance and character indicate lack of required standard or skills, leadership should be consider some form of training or development program to improve them. This may take place either within the organization, or outside in a specialized area.
One tragic fact is that must Christian will attend night classes to study craft and skills, but will scarcely attend those specifically designed to improve their performance in their work in the church. For example, few Sunday school training programs are ever successful because attendance is low. Leadership must find better ways of training to help those who attend and to motivate other.
B) Establishing a system of check and controls
We have considered this under “delegation “but it needs to emphasized. In leading and directing people one need a system which will keep him informed of the progress different individuals or departments are making. If one is working to a programmed scheduled this is very important, especially if one department is dependant on another for collective progression of work.
C) Establishing methods of motivation.
We are dealing with human beings. There is that a man who responds to motivation of reward and competition. One form of motivation may work effectively in one area or culture but fail miserable in another. In Christian work some look at reward as being carnal and inappropriate. There is a danger of working for rewards only, which would be inappropriate , but reward for work well done is also Gods way of compensating for effort and sacrifice “beyond the call of duty.” In our lesson on motivation, we will deal with this matter in greater detail.
D) Establishing a system of discipline and punishment.
Is it a need, or appropriate, that a Christian organization or church should exercise discipline and even some form of punishment? Of course it is. When dealing with people there is always a need for discipline. We started under “ authority ‘’ that it includes an element we called the ‘’or –else-factor ‘’ When authority is disregarded there may with man. we need to do so also.;

V) THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF REACHING AN OBJECTIVE .
There is only one way to become a leader and that is to’’ be one’’ There are two ways of lifting a target –or reaching an objective these are by using the ‘’big gun’ or the guided missile’’
A. There is a leader who can be compared to a big artillery gun.
His method of operating is ‘’load aim fire ‘’if he misses the procedure is repeated over and over until the target is hit .Anyone who has any experience with big gun ‘’ will understand that much have in general created before the target is it. So it is with this leader. He shoots off ‘’frequently, but only occasionally scores a point. The main problem with the big gun is that once fired there is no control over its missile. It does not known his target ,it can only go the direction it was pointed .Many leaders do not have the capability of making adjustments in their trajectory when the target moves or if the initial aim was not exactly right. This is why there are so many misses and near misses in human undertaking.
B. Another type of leader can be compared to a guided missile. Guided missile seldom misses their target. There may be time when one needs to use ‘’big gun’’ tactics in leadership, the target may be unclear and explanatory shots may be require. However, there is considerable wastage in this method, and usually uninvolved people get hunt. Guided missile are relevant to good leadership and when properly applied, help on to ‘’zero in’’ on a target with efficiency and effectiveness. Here are some characteristics of a guided missile and good leadership.
1. The guided missiles pick up his target before it is launched or released. A good leader knows where he is going before he starts out.
2. The guided missiles depends on ‘’feedback’’ from the target for its guidance information. Some missiles are astro-guided, which means they rely on information from the heaven, or stars to know their position relative to their objectives. Then there the ‘’heart –seeking’’ missiles which home it on a heat source. The sidewinder missiles, developed by the united Sate are a heat – seeking weapon. This is why it is so effective against aircraft which produce tremendous quantities of heat The permittivity of its guidance system was so great that it would ‘’home in’’ on in ordinary flashlight five feet away. Other missiles are radar guided. A good leader starts out with certain information regarding his target before he is launched ‘’ and once he is on the move he relies heavily on feedback information which comes from objective. He is objective –oriented and not pen-oriented .
3.The guided missile has the capability of making directional changes while in flight to adjust to atmospheric condition and target changes .A good leader has the capacity to make necessary changes in his approach ,should there be unexpected ‘’confrontation ‘’not programmed into the objective formulas or if his objective has altered in any way .
4. The guided missiles is sensitive to, and feeds on, its errors.
What this means that a missile has the capacity to recognize when it is wrong or off target. It is only when it comes that it is wrong that makes correction and put itself right. its knowledge of its error is its secret of sasses. A good leader is one who tries to avoid foolish and unnecessary errors, but he is able and ready to use information gained from his errors . An ignored error leads to further error and eventually to failure to accomplish what one sets out to do. It is an intrigued fact that summative to our faults and errors can provide with positive guidance in leadership and personal life. Many leaders fail in their rude because their judgment of others and their decision are base on a negative attitude towards errors and mistakes make by themselves. A true Christian ought to be a guided missile,
